Metashape – Advanced Navvis Alignment
Please Note: This is an experimental lesson. I am trying a new technique and how it can be applied. For clarification, I do texture in Metashape but if I only have panoramas, I do the projection in Maya, Houdini or Mari instead.
I’m sitting here drinking my coffee, and I know the Navvis fisheye cameras, while really well aligned, are still offset from the navvis panoramas I know have perfect alignment from Navvis Ivion Cloud. How do I get it to match, and it hits me, export the lidar pano position, then add the pano to the camera rig. Export lidar camera pano position, then import as a reference for the camera rig. It’s so absurdly obvious, but for some reason I never thought of it before. Of course, Metashape doesn’t consider the internal position of a pano inside a lidar file as a camera when exporting cameras.
I would need a python script to do the work….

Please note, this current release has a bug which causes it to crash with Navvis lidar data.
